Below you will find the notes from our first meeting. As we move into the upcoming school year, one of the most important goals is that we develop a single school culture. Please read through the notes- don't hesitate to forward thoughts for discussion at our next meeting (nmnayowith@philasd.org).

Concerns/Issues

Dress Code/hats
  • Provide appropriate clothing
  • Contact home re- bringing clothes
  • Refusal of above = in house suspension
Lockers (assignments)/locks
  • Purchase a lock for EVERY locker (even unassigned)
  • Provide a lock for every student and zip tie unassigned lockers
  • Master list of assigned lockers
  • If items are found in an unassigned locker – they will be confiscated
  • Clean out lockers quarterly
Rotating detentions
  • Afterschool in Detention room– possibly 5th floor
  • EC opportunity for staff
  • Detention must be documented and phone call home must be made
Class cutting (monitored Quarterly)- Hall Walking
  • Scholarchip workshop for staff
  • First cut – teacher responsibility (call home, class detention, etc)
  • Second cut – teacher responsibility (call home, class detention, etc)
  • Third cut – Referral to Dean of Students, school detention, revoked privileges
Lateness
Late Room for all students late to school at start of day
- students will remain until the end of the period
Excused Lates need to be cleared upon entry
- notes will not be accepted beyond 24 hrs and presented to Dean
Excused lates will receive late pass and sent to classStudents arriving after 1st period/advisory

Early Dismissal
Per SDP policy –ALL early dismissals MUST be requested, in advance, by a Parent/Guardian (verbal or written)
This policy INCLUDES students OVER 18! No student is to leave the building early without permission of Parent/Guardian.
Cell phones/electronics
SEE ATTACHED LETTER -
Under NO circumstances are electronics (cell phones, MP3, handheld games) to be used in the school. All electronic devices seen will be confiscated by staff.
1st Time Offense: parent must come to school to retrieve device
2nd Offense: electronic device becomes property of school and MAY be returned on last day of school
Parents and students will sign contract indicating knowledge of electronics policy
Card Playing
Card playing is NOT PERMITTED at the Academy @ Palumbo. This includes standard playing cards, card games, and trading cards. Violations to this policy will result in confiscation of cards and possible disciplinary action.
Cafeteria access during school day/non lunch periods

Students may only access the lunchroom during their lunch periods. ALL students MUST swipe in to access the lunchroom
Library access throughout day
Students will be permitted in the library with library passes ONLY. Students sign up for library passes in the lunchroom the day BEFORE their requested day. All passes will be distributed during Advisory. Additional days/computer time can be granted at Librarians discretion.
Bathroom Passes
Students must exchange their ID for a bathroom pass in order to leave the class/lunchroom. Bathroom passes will be color coded by floor.
Rooftop access
Students are NOT PERMITTED on the 6th floor and rooftop area WITHOUT direct supervision of a Staff member
Staffing of Deans office
Use of staff assigned Duty Period to staff Deans Office EVERY period
  • supervise ISS students
  • receive discipline referrals
Staff monitoring lunch periods
Use of staff assigned Duty Period to assist with student entrance and egress from lunchroom
  • Entry door swipe in at kiosk
  • Exit door check for notes/passes, monitor bathroom pass (if needed to assist Cain/Johnson)

Use of staff assigned Duty Period to maintain weekly list (1 staff member will work in conjunction with each counselor- alphabetically. The specific responsibility is to create the list for that portion of the alphabet).

3rd offense- overnight suspension
4th offense- 1 day suspension
